United Methodist Men

United Methodist Men-umm-logo plain3From the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. "United Methodist Men shall be a creative, supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually and to seek daily his will".  The UMM helps men live out their vows and commitment through a spiritual relationship with other men of the Church. We seek knowledge and illumination that speaks to a central question: What does it mean to be a man who serves the Lord? UMM history.  At Burks Chapel our number of men are small, but we strive to live up to the mission from the Book of Discipline. Fellowship through our 1st Sunday ministry is an example of how we seek to support one another and the Body of Christ.

Youth Fellowship

United Methodist YouthLogo 1Our goal is to walk with our youth in their journey to know Christ. Creating an environment that is condusive for them to experience Christ in their own unique way.  We foster a nurturing relationship with each youth to set an example as the type of relationship they should strive for with Christ.  The gospel is taught such that they not only know, but feel God’s love and respond in faith with love and service to others. In all  this we are making disciples of Jesus Christ. The youth concentrate on building their relationships with God and constantly strengthening and supporting each other in preparation for their faith journey. It is also important for them to understand that they too have a voice in God's kingdom.

Sunday School

sunday-school-logoSunday School at Burks Chapel is a challenging, educational, and inspiring start to our worship day. Our mission can be found in the scripture "Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:" Deuteronomy 31:12. Our teachers,  Diann Holmes  and Nikki Williams are very knowledgeable and inspire class participation in the lessons. The attendance has increased recently, and we pray that it continues as we aim to become better in service to His kingdom.

Bible Study

WedBibleStudyLogo-01WebWe believe that the Bible is the God-breathed, inspired word of God and as such it is the only authority for understanding the nature of God and his purpose for mankind. We subscribe to the Apostles' Creed as our statement of faith. Our Wednesday Bible Study is an inspiring and passionate discussion of the scriptures. Our mission can be found in Rev. Smith's statement, "We are striving to make disciples for Christ, as witnesses to his goodness, grace and mercy".

Communications / Internet

United Methodist Church Communications VertLogo1At Burks Chapel we are very proud of the lines of communication we have established. All of our committees and ministries are connected through Calling Post. With Calling Post it's possible for any President or Chairperson to record an announcement, meeting time or time change and contact every member of that committee with one call. We are also are able to communicate with every household in the congregation using the same method.

We are also very proud of the launching of our NEW website that will make our mission of witnessing for Christ more efficient. With the help of the good Lord communication will continue to improve the efficiency and outreach of our church as a whole.

Older Adult Ministry

Older Adult MinistryOur leaders know that people of all ages are called to be faithful witnesses of God's love. Older adults, and people of other ages as well , are equipped and empowered for ministry. We find creative ways of inviting older adults to remain a vital part of the church by using whatever gifts and graces the have to contribute to its ministry. Our Older Adult Ministry makes an effort to include our seniors in all aspects of our church family. We visit nursing homes, and communicate with the sick and shut in. We involve our youth in this ministry to give them an opportunity  to show their appreciation for the generation preceding them.

1st Sunday Ministry

Our 1st Sunday ministry was conceived of and started in 2000 under the leadership of former Pastor Rev.1st Sunday Ministry Lenton Snow. The motivation was to improve the attendance on 1st Sunday (we had recently become an every Sunday church), and foster fellowship among the Burks Chapel male members. We are in our 12th year of this ministry his vision of attendance and fellowship is alive and  still growing. Come and join us on 1st Sunday and let the men of Burks Chapel cook for you. Our speciality is fish, but you never know what we might have on the menu when you visit.

Exercise / Health Ministry

health ministry_3logoThe mission of the health ministry is to transform lives by elevating individuals to a harmonious state of health and wellness of mind, body, and spirit. As disciples of Jesus Christ through evangelism, health education, prevention programs, screenings, and health related services, Burks Chapel commitment to health and wellness is reflected in two programs we have in place. We provide a weigh in and blood pressure screening monthly for our members. We also have exercise classes Tuesday and Thursday spearheaded by Minister Sandra Williams. The classes are well attended by diverse age groups. Everyone is urged to work-out at their own pace and at the level their physical abilities will permit.
